Founder's Story

​

Hi, I am Peggy , the founder of Team Vlinder and I wanted to share with you a little bit about my journey and what inspired me to create this mental health support service.

​

It all began more than 25 years ago when I founded The Clown Doctors in The Netherlands. Working with seriously ill children and their families showed me the transformative power of joy and laughter in difficult times. I later moved to Australia and was invited by the Australian Clown Doctors to coach their new team here. As a Clown Doctor at Sydney Children's Hospital, I saw firsthand how powerful a simple smile could be in helping children and their families cope with the stress and anxiety of hospitalisation.

But my journey didn't stop there. I continued to explore different avenues of human empowerment, including working as a chief experience officer, grief & loss counsellor, trauma support mentor, drama coach and recovery coach. Through all of these experiences, I developed a holistic approach to mental health support that treats individuals as individuals, not just as diagnoses or problems.

My own personal journey as a mother of a daughter who battled an eating disorder also taught me about the importance of empathy, understanding and support. It inspired me to create a mental health support service that truly meets people where they are and guides them to find their own unique paths towards improved mental health and well-being.

I am so grateful for the experiences and lessons that have brought me to where I am today, and I am honoured to be able to use my skills and experiences to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
